OLUGBODI Oladipupo Abiola
Full name: OLUGBODI Oladipupo Abiola
Academic rank: Lecturer II
Short Profile:
Oladipupo Olugbodi is a scholar of Intellectual History and African Historiography, specializing in the decolonization and functionality of historical knowledge. His research interrogates the global politics of knowledge production, specifically examining how Nigerian historians (home-based and foreign-based) navigate and reshape African narratives within the global knowledge economy. By bridging the gap between “home-based” and “foreign-based” scholarship, he seeks to establish a functionalist framework where historical inquiry serves as a catalyst for socio-economic development and national identity.
Dr. Olugbodi has served as a Guest Researcher at Humboldt University of Berlin and is a Fellow of the Ife Institute of Advanced Studies. His publications in academic journals such as African Historical Review, Prácticas da História, and the Lagos Historical Review explore the intersection of epistemic justice, educational curricula, and the practical utility of history in a digital age. He is also deeply engaged in uncovering communal socio-economic histories through oral traditions and investigating the dynamics of religious and cultural evolution in Nigeria as evident to his contributions to edited volumes on Yoruba history and Nigerian economic history. His academic engagements reflect a commitment to rigorous scholarship, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the repositioning of African historical studies within global knowledge debates.
At Obafemi Awolowo University, he teaches courses in African history and historiography, international history, and historical method, while continuing research on knowledge decolonization and functionality, diaspora–home academic networks, and innovation in historical practice.
